What began as a grassroots movement led by the Aurora Black Community Association resulted in the Town of Aurora officially declaring February as Black History Month in September 2020—a lasting step toward recognition, inclusion, and truth.
I CAN SWIM
Why did a Black boy drown? Because he never had the chance to learn how to swim.
Jeremiah Perry tragically drowned during a school trip while taking part in what should have been a joyful Canadian experience. His story is not isolated—it reflects a deeper, preventable gap in access to water safety within the Black community.
The ABC I CAN SWIM program exists to change that. We are committed to making sure no child or parent is left behind when it comes to this life-saving skill.
We accept registrations year-round as long as funding allows. If you or someone you know would like to sponsor this program and help save lives, please reach out to us.
Together, we can break barriers—one swim at a time.
I Can Swim Application
This program is intended for families experiencing financial barriers who would not otherwise be able to enroll their child in swimming lessons. If this reflects your current situation, we encourage you to apply. Our goal is to create access, build confidence, and ensure every child has the opportunity to learn this life-saving skill.
Your dignity is important to us—this support exists because we believe every child deserves the chance to swim safely and confidently.
