About the Event

1. We will have a taste from our ABC Recipe Book - Taste of Diversity by Chef Sean - The Melting Pot

2. 2 participants will be awarded through our I Believe Grant- Aurora Black Community Association's flagship grant to encourage new initiatives and self-development activities of community members this February

3. Announcing the launching of our new I CAN SWIM program. In Canada, immigrants are less likely to learn to swim or to participate recreationally. Most Canadian newcomers come from Asia, Africa and the Caribbean. With the stereotype that makes most assume that coming from the Caribbean surrounded by water, we must all be fish or expert swimmers. That is not the reality. With your support, we aim to fund swimming lessons for ten children and their parents- A life skill that all should have. Parents who can't swim cannot save their children, for that reason parents are included.

4. Forward Thinking Action Plan Round-table Conversation moderated by Colin Campbell & ABC President. Black People have been in Canada since 1603. Black History was formally recognized in 1995, 27 years ago, but has been formally celebrated in Toronto since 1979, for over 42 years. Aurora Black Community Association deputation, which was approved, to have Black History being formally recognized by our town in 2021. Understanding that this work requires everyone's doing their part we will be having a forward-thinking conversation with different organizations and residents to demonstrate to our community that Black History will not be window-dressed in February then be forgotten. This conversation is to demonstrate our commitment to the work that's needed.
